Date calculator

Post by JonAxtell » 18 Jan 2007 17:08

A feature to allow manipulation of dates for calculating ages or time periods. Currently I use the Windows built-in calculator, but one built into FH which can do more would be better.

For example, given a birth date and a possible marriage date its quite simple to use the Windows calculator to work out the age for the marriage date which could indicate it's validity. However a calculator that knows the birth date already from the currently selected individual would be nice. The calculator could then show all the ages for a specified date for all dates held on file for the person. With the specified date it should then be possible to select different individuals to see which ones are possible candidates. For instance with five Amy E Axtells born between 1883-1903 and a marriage date of 1921 I could quickly find out which are the most likely. Quick - work out if someone born in 1903 could be legally married in 1921 - and don't use your fingers! [wink] If you are good with working out maths in your head then you don't need this feature, but for some numbskulls like me it would make life a lot easier.

Ideally this would be a non-modal dialog which can be kept floating ready for use at any time.

Jon, did you try the RJTDateCalc, it's in the links section, I wrote it years ago, but it still works, and it has a 'stick on top' option.

Thanks Jane, that'll do nicely. Would have prefered a free entry of the date since I sometimes work in just years so I'm forced to enter 01/01/yyyy but other than that it a brilliant solution - just needs the connection to FH to know the currently selected individual and Bingo! [wink]
