Best way to record suspect dates
Was wondering if anyone could advise me on the best way to record suspect dates in FH please?
I've been given some info about a branch of my family but the dates seem very suspect
e.g. one person has
Died 6th February 1595/96
Burial 6th February 1595/96
Was wondering how should i interpret this and how to record it in FH please
Many thanks

Best way to record suspect dates
These are likely to be Julian dates, see

I understand now!
But would the fact that the burial/death dates are the same still be suspect though? or would it be common that long ago to bury someone the same day they died please?

Best way to record suspect dates
Seems possible, especially if it's an infant death. But beware, a lot of people record baptism and burial as if they're birth and death dates... it depends where you (or your informant) got the information from. The important thing is to record the source (with a 'suspect' assesment if you like).

Not infant deaths, and the info has a lot of theseChrisBowyer said:

I think my best bet would be to take these as more likely to be burial and mark as suspect? or would you opt to put it in both and mark both as suspect?
Thanks

I'd certainly record it as a burial and probably ignore the death date. Or ask the informant where it comes from (difficult sometimes, especially in email, without sounding rude). Or better still, look it up yourself in the parish register if you can get to the county archives.

Just as an aside, 1595 is around the time of the Black Death, if that was the cause death and burial might well have been very quick.
My guess on the same date is that the only information was the burial.
