Text formatting in Notes windows

Post by annie » 23 Oct 2006 17:31

I’ve searched the Wish List and done a general search and I can’t find this topic mentioned anywhere…

I have a lot of problems with the formatting in the Notes window.  I like to enter the information from a census entry in the Notes for the event in a tabulated format.  If I get the correct alignment in Word then copy it into FH some of the the alignment is lost.  Some columns move to the left, others to the right.  I was going to include a couple of examples, but when I did a preview of the posting, the alignment was lost!

I’ve also tried entering the census data with Gedcom Census and putting this tabulated information in the Source window but I still have alignment problems.  Am I doing something wrong?  Is the only way to avoid alignment problems to use a Courier font and no tabs?

Many thanks for any hints

Hi

Currently there isn't a satisfactory way to format entries into columns that put into any of the text fields including source text and notes. It is my biggest 'wish' on the wishlist for this to be possible.

I know you would expect me to but I really do recommend using Gedcom Census for your census entries, the problems with creatin Gedcom Census are purely because this is the way that Family Historian does things.

Hi Nick,

thank you for your reply.  I shall indeed be using Gedcom Census to enter the data in future!  The only downside is that I've an awful lot of census data in FH already and will have to re-enter it all so that the old data matches the new (in format).

Which is the Wish List entry for this problem?  I did a search but perhaps didn't type in the right words! I shall certainly give it a 5!

I've previously added a comment at the bottom of the wish regarding tables being part of the word-processing facilities required.
