My computer recently crashed so I've started again on a laptop. I've reloaded FH and have got it to re-open the Gedcom file I had but I can't get it to restore the latest backup file I had. When I double click the icon the folder looks empty but I don't know if I'm actually doing it right in the first place. I can't seem to find instructions in the manual.
I'm running Windows XP Home.
Can someone give me a step by step guide to what I'm supposed to do so I can make sure I'm trying to do it right first? I'm confused. [confused]

Don't worry you are not the first to be caught out.
Nick Walker has started an excellent article on the Wiki about backup and recovery

Restoring from Backup
Having been burnt by this yesterday (did a merge wrong, broke an evening's records, decided to restore and tried opening the ZIP file under XP instead of from Family Historian. It was empty which led to a surge of blind panic and immediate backups to everything I could find.
I have added something to the wiki entry to stress that any empty ZIP files are nothing of the sort - why didn't I look here first!
