An FH gedcom viewer to run from the CD/DVD

A fully fuctional but read only version of FH you can autorun from the CD (i.e. cut out the installation step). This would let users choose between browsing your Family Tree CD/DVD in the normal way, or opening the run-time viewer to view your GEDCOM file including charts  and pictures.

An FH gedcom viewer to run from the CD/DVD

Simon at Calico Pie suggested I float the idea of a runtime version. He thinks it sounds interesting as it would run from the CD(without installation) and so much more could go on the CD(ie gedcoms linked to Multimedia pics and Docs. It's a bit more than a read only version. But he wants to know what others think.

An FH gedcom viewer to run from the CD/DVD

Sounds a good idea to me. While a read only version is fine for some of my PC literate relatives where I can tell them to go to Calico Pie's website to download and install it, some others are less PC literate and if it can be all wrapped up and included in a CD I create from my full version then they will be more likely to have a look. Missing out the install and download steps would definitely be good. Presumably it would allow the (full version) FH user to add their GEDCOM, charts and any multimedia folders to the CD so anyone could browse around it. There may be various privacy issues with the GEDCOM, but there are already plenty of forum postings about this.
