My husbands GGGrandfather William Albert Taubman served with the King's Liverpool regiment and I have his service record. I was hoping someone might be able to work out or guess what these places are. They are all in the East Indies as other parts of the papers say he served in the East Indies durring the dates they refer to.
The first two are
Ahmednagar, India
Quetta, Pakistan
I think

Quetta you can google - it's in Pakistan,as you say, province of Baluchistan. Of course there wasn't a Pakistan in the C19...

The one after Quetta might be Harnai, which is about 80km east of Quetta.

Funnily enough my gt-grandfather served with the Kings Liverpool Regiment too and was in India between 1880 and 1891 so I've had similar issues trying to interpret place names. There is a book, published around 1900-1910, if I remember correctly, called 'The History of the Kings Liverpool Regiment' that I spotted last year in the Lancashire Record Office. This was very useful as it described on a year by year basis where the troops were based and this helped me to work out some of the names of places that I hadn't managed to interpret.

You may find some help here:

Thanks Nick, I will see if I can get a copy on loan or get someone on the liverpool list to check it out. The trouble with husbands family is they mostly lived 250 miles from where we now live.
