1851 Census

Post by david63 » 27 Nov 2003 08:18

I noticed last night that LDS have a Cd of the British 1851 Census available from thier site. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this data. Is it complete? Is it easy to find details within the CD? Is it worth getting?

The reason I ask is that although it only costs $6 to buy there is a shipping charge of about $25!!!

One other thought, as I am typingthis, is whether it is possible to buy it from over here from one of the LDS centres.

Any one have any thoughts on this?

Give them a call at the following address:
The Distribution Centre
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
399 Garretts Green Lane
Birmingham
B33 0UH

Telephone Sales: 08 700 10 20 51
or 0121 785 2200
They're very helpful & delivery is fast. The 1851 CDs only cover Devon, Norfolk & Warwick (sic) though & cost £5.95 inc. p&p.
I bought the 1881 set & Vital Records sets a few weeks ago - fascinating!

1851 Census

Hi David I actually sent off for this CD Earlier in the year to help trace my Warwickshire ancestors. The Cd took about 2 to 3 weeks to arrive, And for me was well worth the wait. It was easy to install. Not only can you search for individuals but you can also search for addresses, and there is an A-Z index. All the Census info is included for each entry, and at the click of a button you can move up and down the street to see who the neighbours were.

I can remember reading somewhere that it was compiled as test data and a trial prior to launching the LDS 1881 on line census?

The price was a bargain and I can highly recommend this CD if you are looking for your ancestors in any of the three counties covered.

Happy hunting[smile]
