* BMD Index Ref

I have a BMD Index ref which is in the form of 1z 111b  I have not come across 'b' before, does anyone know if it has any significance?  I have checked on clara.net/dixons but can find no reference to it.

I have come across at least one reference where there was a suffix letter. All I can think is that it was missed in the initial recording and had to be added later.
