I have had a computer problem this week which means that I have had to put Windows back on and reinstall Family Historian.
When I have gone to look at my tree in the program I find that I have lost my custom diagram even though I always saved before coming out of the program and did a backup.
I have tried opening the backup file but it asks for a password and as far as I know I have never had a password.
Does all this actually mean I have to do the custom diagram again. If so does it mean that there is no way of saving the diagram. [frown][confused][cry]
I am using Family Historian 2.3.5

Diagram Gone !!!!
On V2
If you are on version 2, all custom objects are saved in application data in documents and settings and need to be backed up from there separately.
On V3 there is and import and export option for queries etc on the File menu. Also on V3 custom diagrams are saved in a place of your choosing, so can be saved in the same folder as your gedcom file.
When you are trying to open your backup files can you confirm you are using the restore option with in FH, your custom diagrams are not stored in the backup of the gedcom file how ever.

Thank you for your reply so it looks as if I have to do it all again and try toremember how I did it. I was not trying to open the backup in the restore but if that has not got the diagram then it does not matter.
I have not upgraded to V3 as it is so expensive and I cannot afford it.
Better start doing the diagram.

On most XP machines the application data folder is within documents and settings folder
eg
c:documents and settingsall usersapplication datacalico pie
Some other programs save settings to these folders so its a good idea to back them up when you backup your my docments folder.
