Hi All,
I have searched through the listings about enetering birth or death certifictes but I am still not sure I have grasped it.
I have scanned them all into seperate folders for each type.
These next step are where I don't know if I have done it correctly.
1) Used Insert picture and gave each one a unique name prefixed with birth or death.
After doing this I was then going to link them to the individuals concerned.
Now how do I enter the details form each certificate? I read somewhere that you enter all the names into the text part of the source & the rest into the notes.
I am sorry if this is a really stupid question but I need to know if I am on the right track at this early stage.

Hi, everyone has their own way of doing this.  Personally I have a source for each Certificate, puting any text I can not enter direct on the entries in the note on the source.

Thanks for replying so quickly. Please could you clarify the next steps as I still don't entirely understand it. I have read your article (I am a bit slow).
Working in the records view adding Birth certificate
Now do I right click the individual & add the new source or do I add the source into the 'Born' event for the individual?
After doing this I am correct in assuming that I then add a source note.

I would attach the source to the birth event. If the certificate also gave me the mother maiden name I would attach the source to the name for the mother.

In the same way on a marriage certificate might well be the source for the father of a person.

When entering new certificate I tend to use the auto source function so that all new information I add while working from a certificate gets the certificate as a source.

You should not need a source note if you have created the certificate as a source. Source Notes at the event level are in addition to the source information its self.

One of the problems (and benefits) with FH is that it supports the whole of the gedcom standard, therefore you can put data in all sorts of different ways.

Thanks for including the screenshot because it has answered another question I had which would have been about Repositories. I had made a seperate repository for each type of certificate I have a copy of, mainly because I thought it would help having all the birth certificates etc together in one location.
