Help with custom text schemes

Post by IDgen » 12 Nov 2003 22:06

What I am hoping  to achieve is to display all the information, on an all relative chart, that you see using the first default text scheme listed below but to add Occupation, Education, and Religion to the boxes.
This is my attempt.

When I chose this default text scheme from the text tab on the diagram options dialogue
Name,Date,How related

%INDI.NAME(colon)PREFERRED%
{picture}
=LifeDates(%INDI%)
=Relationship([''],%INDI%,TEXT,1)
And press the apply button the Relationships in all the boxes in the all relative chart display fine as they should.

When I click on the New button and enter the name for new scheme
Name,Date,Occ,Educ,Religon,How related
Then base new scheme on Name,Date,Occ,Educ,Religon
And then enter the last function line for how related as below

%INDI.NAME (colon) PREFERRED%
{picture}
=LifeDates(%INDI%)
Occ. %INDI.OCCU%
Educ. %INDI.EDUC%
Religion: %INDI.RELI%
=Relationship([''],%INDI%,TEXT,1)
Followed by pressing the Apply button, some of the relationships are missing, for some relatives, in the display boxes on the all relatives chart. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a rule that Perhaps all functions have to come at the end of the script??

I would be grateful for any advice.[confused][confused]

PS the (colons) typed in the script above  should be read as two dots. For some reason the text editor kept changing the colons, that I typed in, to smilies.

Have you added the line to all possible boxes. i.e Default, Ancestors, Descendants ?

Any elements with a * next to them need the line adding.

Please let me know if this is the problem.

As you suggested, I added the line  =Relationship([''],%INDI%,TEXT,1) to all the possible box types with a * alongside them, ie. Descendent*, Duplicate* and Proxy*,(in this particular instance). This worked a treat.

Am I right in assuming that I should apply this as a general principle, when creating any custom text schemes?

PS. I think this web site is cool.

Many thanks Jane.[smile]

Yes, thats right. I think Calico's reasoning is to allow you to put more detail on direct ancestors and desendants than on more distant relations.

Make sure you keep the make default check box ticked as a bug in 2.1.8 prevents the scheme from being saved. This will be fixed in 2.2 when it eventually arrives.
