I've found some likely looking extensions to my family tree on ancestry.co.uk, and have downloaded the appropriate ancestry and descendancy gedcom files.
I want to merge these together, and with a copy of my own research, but I want to add a source record to all the new information to show it came from someone else's research published on ancestry, rather than my own.
Adding the necessary source record is easy, but I cannot work out an efficient way to add a citation to that source record from all the other records (Individuals at a minimum). Doing it manually record-by-record will be time consuming, tedious and open to error/omission.
I've tried building a query to select all the Individuals, but the only operation available on the result set seems to be to add a flag, which isn't really enough (though I do intend to flag the new data and display it slightly differently to distinguish it from my own research).
Any suggestions, anyone?
Thanks

When you do the merge, just use the option to add a source for all information merged from the other file.
Alternately if you are adding the information manually and not merging just turn on auto source citation.

Why would you want to do this? You can at anytime get a list of all persons linked to a source.Adding the necessary source record is easy, but I cannot work out an efficient way to add a citation to that source record from all the other records (Individuals at a minimum). Duh! How did I miss that? Thanks, Jane.
PS 'Why would you want to do that?' I think I didn't explain myself well - I had missed the fact that Merge would both create the new source and add all the citations - I thought I had to do all that manually ... I should have known (and read) better ... I didn't want to add yet another set of citations.[oops]
