Version 2.1.8:

Sources section in Properties dialog.
Display an individual.
If the individual already has a spouse, click on the blank tab to prepare for a new spouse.
Click Name of individual.
Click Add Citation button.
Select any source.
Click OK.
Enter text for Where Within Source.
Click Spouse Name.
Select Create New Record.
Click Name individual.
If added source is not highlighted, select it. -> Where Within Source is now blank.

I lost quite a few citations before I realized why.  A click outside the Where Within Source box will set the text, but I now have a general uneasiness about losing data, so I click and recheck much more often than should be necessary.

I will highlight, both your messages to Calico and see if they can shed any light on the problems.

If you have not already found it there is an automatic save in the tools preferences.

You may also like to get into the habit of hitting at the end of each entry. This ensures FH 'has' the text.

Thank you for a very helpful description of how to reproduce the problem.  It is indeed a bug.  Investigation has shown that it only affects fields in the citation pane (the yellow area that you enter source citation details into).

It will be fixed in 2.2.  Meanwhile as Jane says, the workaround is to get into the habit of hitting the tab key (at least when in the citation pane) after entering data into a field. Actually its always a good idea to do that anyway.  In 2.2 field validation will occur when (and if) you click on the Tab key to exit a field - or if you press F5 when in it.

Our apologies to everyone affected.
