I have lots of pictures linked to individual records. Is there any way to view the photographs as a slide show without having to open and close each individual image

Although not a slide show as such if you select tools/work with multimedia objects the media window will open with them all showing and if you select the first you can step down by pressing the cursor down key.
Another option might be to export a list via a query and use one of the many slideshow programs available

Or you could download the Individual Multimedia Report (see the Download section) which will show you thumbnails of all photos entered for a given individual.

How can you change the multimedia report to be the whole picture instead of just the frame inserted for an individual? Thanks.

I am not sure what report you mean.
What I often do is to attach the whole photo to a family record so that both the 'cut out' photo and the group photo is shown. The record detail - multmedia report does show the whole image.

Sorry, I was refering to Suez's previous reply. Like Suez, I want to create a picture scrapbook for an individual (that shows all the pictures that an individual is in (i.e. linked to with frames)). The Individual Multimedia Report (see the 'Downloads' section) outputs exactly what I want it to, but only shows the 'cut out' frame instead of the whole picture. Is there some variable in the Individual Multimedia Report that defines how pictures are outputed (either frame or whole picture) that I could change? Thanks.

I don't think so, you would need to link the whole photo to the person or family as well.

I'm not sure how the Individual Multimedia Report was created, but I'm assuming it was created from a custom query? If so, it should be possible to create a custom query that pulls out all Multimedia that an individual has a link to. I have tried this in 2 ways but need some help.
(1) individual query - with columns Multimedia Object (in the Miscellaneous folder) and rows add if INDI.NAME[1] matches an individual name typed in as a parameter. THe problem with this is that I want all instances of Multimedia Objects instead of just 1, so I dont know how to change the INDI.OBJE[1]> in the column expression to retrieve multiple instances?
(2) Multimedia Query - with Multimedia Object as column, pulling out all mutlimedia that have Link/Note that contains the individual name typed in as a parameter. The problem with this is that it only looks to the Note text, not the Link individual name that is associated with that note.
SO, I could use some help pleaes.

In response to your previous post, I understand that you could link the picture to the individual, but I would prefer to link the individual to the picture because in pictures that have multiple people
(1) it would involve much less time and coordination to simply go down the list of pictures linking people in that picture to their record than to go down the list of individuals looking for picture they are in;
(2) I am holding out for a feature that will output all the whole pictures an individual is in, WITH the frame identifying the individual in that picture (this enables a decedent who obviously has never seen their great-great grandfather to look at the great-great grandfather's scrapbook and easily identify him in the pictures)

No its a report. This is because you can not currently use wild cards in queries only in reports and diagrams.

On the second one, just look at the way the Sources for Given Record works, this should allow you to easily find all the media linked to a selected person. As you are looking for the record links rather than text. Have you tried doing =containstext at the record level of the multimedia object if you do need to search the notes?

Hi, if its the report that i loaded a fair while ago, then you can't do anything more with it than any other report. It just uses the standard FH functionality under the pictures tab on the report options to control how many pictures and what size they are. I'm afraid that there are not any options on the tab to tell it to use the full picture instead of a part of the picture, when you have linked to a frame.

My Row query is 'Add if %OBJE.NOTE2% contains ('Individual Name')' where 'Individual Name' is a parameter that the user types in and OBJE.NOTE2 is the variable that was put in when I click on 'Link/Note'. This query doesnt work though. For example, the Multimedia Object has 'John Doe SMITH ('Test Note')' in the Link/Note field where John Doe Smith is linked to the Multimedia with a note = Test Note. This query only returns the object if the parameter contains 'Test Note' and doesnt even check the 'Link' part of the 'Link/Note' variable that has the individual name.
Help?

I think you will find the link does not contain the name, only a link to the record which is different. As I said before you need to use the =LINKFROM option

Ok, in using the LinksFrom function, how do I get the parameter 'Individual Name' passed into the function to check that the # of links from the Multimedia object to the Individual object are greater than 0? I'm sorry I'm having trouble with this expression. Thanks so much for your help!!

Try
=LinksFrom(['Record'],,EXT)
greaterthan 0

That query worked great! Thanks for spending the time to make that!
Now the only thing is formatting the report. If I use a 'Record Detail - Multimedia' report and then choose to include those multimedia obtained with the provided query (by using 'Add Using Query'), I have been able to hide the main heading showing the multimedia filename and to include the multimedia on the same page, but I can't figure out how to hide all of the multimedia details (including filename, format, etc.) to really look like a scrapbook. In addition, is there a way to have records be side by side instead of one under another?
This should be the last question, so I won't have to bother you anymore (I know you do this for free). Thanks so much for your help to all of these users.

I think the best you can do with the record multimedia report is to change the section text down and turn off the lines.
I found if you size the photos up to around 4' they look better. You can not do side by side on there as its actually reporting different records with in the file. This will probably require a wish list item, for a latter release to get a scrapbook style output.

Alright, I'll add that as a wishlist. Thanks so much for your help Jane!
