I know that version 3 has only just shipped, and I must say I am very pleased with it so far, but this has bugged me for some time now. Why can I only run one query at a time? I often run 'transient' queries and the answers I get send me of in another direction in order to get the information I am interested in. In order to do the second query I have to loose the results from the first. I don't really want to clutter my disks with lots of small files - very costly in terms of disk space and causes lots of disk fragmentation problems. Please can we have the ability to run several different queries and reports. Now you have the Navigation bar it seems as though this would be the next logical step.[smile]

You can already lock report windows, to allow you to open multilple reports windows.
I can move this the request to open mutiple queries to the wish list.
Do you actually need mutiple query windows, or simply the ablity to retain mutiple results (I suspect the latter would be a much easier task)
As a work around I often open a spreadsheet and cut and paste results over to that when working/reworking queries.

Another option would be to open multiple copies of FH, loaded with the same data file. You can run different queries in each.
Of course, you do need to remember to save the file if you make any changes - to ensure you are looking at the same data in each copy.

I know this doesn't belong here, but I couldn't let that lie as a recomendation... Don't Do It!. It could be argued that the ability to open two updatable copies of the same file should be considered a bug, or at least a deficiency.

Why not add the query results to a named list? You can put them in a new list, add them to an existing, remove from an existing or replace the contents of the existing. Seems pretty flexible.

In answer to the comment from Chris - I agree one needs to be careful!
However, this is precisely what happens if you run Gencom Census at the same time as FH - two programs with the potential to write to the same file. I find it invaluble to be able to add new people in FH as I enter the census information into Gedcom Census. But you do need to remember to hit Save before leaving FH or you can get very confused.
I would always recommend ensuring you have backups of files before doing anything radical - then you can backtrack if necessary! I always create a backup at the end of each session.
