Scanning Birth etc. Certificates

Post by Stephen_Gaulter » 06 Apr 2006 18:52

Hi there - anyone got any ideas on scanning Birth (and other) certificates? They are longer than your average A4 scanner, so I have to do two scans and cut and tape the prints together. Is there any (inexpensive) software that can 'stitch' two jpg's together?? I'd appreciate any suggestions.

One advantage with the GRO certificates is that they are a4.

I what I do is scan the large ones as two images and join them in PSE.

There are quite a few inexpensive photo programs, but its worth checking out any software which came with the scanner, PSE2 is often buddled with scanners and printers.

Hi
Can someone tell me what PSE is please? I have the same problem. My scanner is quite elderly by today's standards!
Many thanks, Pam [confused]

Sorry Photoshop Elements.

You can also pick up old versions from ebay.

The current version is 4, but I think the panorama tool was added in version 2

It's OK, I've discovered I can do it with Photostitch.
Thanks anyway, Pam

If it's any help - I had the same problem with older certificates and found that the simplest solution was to photograph them with a digital camera - saves hassle joining them together either electronically or physically.

I have Photoshop Elements 2.0 and it's great for joining two scans of an extra long certificate. More often than not the program will 'marry' the two halves up automatically and you shouldn't be able to see the join.

Martin.
