I've seen FH in PC World for £40 in one box, and £50 in another slightly larger box, both on the same shelf. Details on the boxes are identical. Is there a difference?

Stephen, I think this may be down to PC World. It is not a retailer I would recommend as I remember well paying a lot of money for FTM only to find out it was already out of date. They are not good at checking version numbers or stock control.

As long as it is Family Historian, don't worry, 2.0.7 was the first version released and that can be freely upgraded to 2.1, I think 2.0.7 was in the bigger box, but I would get which ever is cheapest and download the upgrade from the main Calico Site.

There was one box in PC World today which I bought for £40. It had Version 2.1 on the box. When I installed the programme I found it to be 2.18. There was note inside promising a free upgrade to 2.2. So I am all set, except I need a big printer with a role of paper for all those fancy diagrams I can now make!
I noted many boxes of Heritage Family Tree Maker, offering umpteen bundled CDs and programmes. What a distraction from the real work ahead.

To be able to purchase FH cheaper and getting a free upgrade to 2.2 when perhaps we early purchasers *may* not be able to so upgrade *would* make me angry!

Hi Phil,
Re paying more for a product than others is life in the compuer game. I cant remember one product that does not come down in price. I cant say much about the upgrade but Simon is pretty fair so I would imagine the upgrade would be free however at the end of the day he does deservemoney for this superb product. I think over the years the mone I spent on FTM for relatively minor upgrades, they are now on to Version 12 I believe and every one was chargeable and no or very little feed back from there web site.

Dont worry Phil. The yellow slip I have says 2.0 and 2.1 users will be able to download a free upgrade from the Internet, when it is released. I naturally assume that means all users of the earlier versions.
I have read here of a lot of interest about just which new features will be added. However, I am still in my 'honeymoon' period with the programme as it is, learning and exploiting all the powerful things I can now do which I could never do before getting FH.
