Preservation of heirloom

Post by miffy » 04 Mar 2006 10:58

I have just inherited a piece of paper which has what appear to be contemporaneous records of BMD dating from 1876.  Needless to say it is now looking a little worn and has torn on the fold.  Where should I go for assistance to preserve this?  I would be grateful for any thoughts and or advice.

Personally, I would scan it. Then simply get an acid free archival folder big enough to store it flat.

A quick Google came up with these links, I'm sure you can find much more if you spend some time searching:

Another source are craft stores as they sell 'acid free and lignum free' items, including albums for scrapbooking.

They are also idea for storing old photos as they avoid damage to them.
