Scottish census

Does anyone have any idea when Scotland's 1851 Census records might be available online and who might publish this?

My guess would be that scotlandspeople.gov.uk will be the ones to publish them, as they already have 1861 - 1901 available. There's no clues on the site as to when (or if) 1851 might become available, though.

The 1851 census has been released to the ScotlandsPeople user group members for testing.

Provided there are no problems, it will hopefully be available on http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk in the next few weeks.

To keep up to date with Scottish genealogy you should have a look at http://www.talkingscot.com

you could try looking at http://freecen.rootsweb.com as this does have some of the 1851 for Scotland on. Although it may be a bit hit and miss as not everything is transcribed yet. But it is free and you can see how much of each county is already done. They seem to also have more for 1841 in Scotland than 1851.

A bit off topic... but kinda on topic too... can anyone tell me why ScotlandsPeople.gov.uk doesn't have the 1881 census available?  I've found family in 1861, 1871, 1891 and 1901 census so they're bound to be in the missing one.  I'm just curious.

Thanks!

Oops... I take that back! It's there... must be suffering from selective blindness.

Please ignore me... cheers!
