how do i sort the colomns in date order rather than entry order

You can either just click on the tops of the columns, or edit the columns of the query and use the sort option on the columns.

i MEAN AS THE COLOMNS GO FROM LEFT TO RIGHT - CHAANGE THIS ORDER

Just go to the Column Tab Select the column and use the curved arrows to re-sequence the columns

I think we are at cross purposes.

each person in list varies depending on which census was entered 1st

Carrie,
Have you tried re-ordering the events using the 'Tools->Re-order out of sequence data' menu option, as i sound like your events are not in order rather than the colomns not in order.
If not, can you attach a screen print so that people can see what you mean.
