Query not picking up all events
Hello all,
I'm one of the the original FH users, although I have to confess to moving to another program, some years ago due to some early niggles. I have recently been checking out the latest upgrade, and have been quite impressed. However I have hit a big stumbling block today.
I'm experimenting with the query functions, and have downloaded the census record checklist one from the query store, as it seemed exactly what I was looking for. My only modification has been to include my custom census tags, as I have one for each year.
I'm using a gedcom imported from Genbox, which seems to have transferred without too many issues.
However after printing out my 28 page report, it became obvious that a lot of census places were not being included in the result set. The strange thing is that for people for who I know I have a full set of census records the result set is only showing some of them. Looking at the record window for such individuals, there seems no apparent reason why this should be, all the census places are showing in the events list. If I produce an narrative report for one of these individuals, all the census events are included (and look identical to previous/later years that the query has picked up..)
I can see no obvious pattern to the ones that are not being picked up, random years, random places, but there must be a reason for it
Any idea what is happening?

Hi Julia,
I am a little bit confused by what you are saying. Do you mean that you have defined custom events for the cenus years, and its the place attribute of the custom event thats not appearing in the result set ?

Nearly you did not press the insert button to add them to the thread.
http://www.fhug.org.uk/images/uploads/J ... klist1.fhq
I could not find the screen dump, just two copies of the query.

Julia,
It looks to me as though, you have it defined as a Custom Attribute, whereas you are asking Query to show an Event (Indi.Event) rather than an Attribute (Indi.Attr).
Check that you don't have them defined as both a Custom Attribute and Custom Event.

Thanks so much, you were exactly right...
It would be interesting to know
a) how you could tell that
b) why it should have imported/exported like that when thay appear as identically set up events in the other program.
It might possibly help me avoid other issues in the future.[smile]
Thank you again

I am guessing the problem was in the alternate program.
When V3 eventually turns up, it allows indexing events by date so removes the need for custom census events as you can query etc based on the year of the census.

Not sure why imported diferently but I could tell it was different because i also have my Census details set up as a Custom Event one for each year and it looks different. See screen shot

Compare this to your screen shot which is set up as an attribute.
