On my great grandmothers death certificate it gives the cause of death as 'Misadventure run over by a train of trams whilst picking up coal (Instantaneous)'
Under Informant it states 'certificate received fro J.B.Walford Coroner for Monmouthshire, Inquest held 23 September 1898.

Are there likely to be any records of that inquest that will have survived and where are they likely to be archived?

Hi David,
It is very possible that you might find records of the inquest. One of my relatives obtained details of an inquest of my Great(4) Grandfather from December 1864, but i am not sure from where though. The records contained the offical verdict, a copy of the 'invite' sent to the Jurors and the coroner's notes (which are next to impossible to read).
I would suggest that you contact the local library in Monmouthshire as they might be able to point you in the directory of any archives for that type of information, or even the registry office for area.

i got details of a coroners report on a death in my husbands family from the local history section of the library - they also found press reports for good measure
