Is there a simple way to separate out a section of my tree?

I would like to supply someone with a gedcom consisting of the descendants of one individual, without having manually to delete everything else.

There is a very simple way to do it.  First make a backup copy of your data under a different file name.

Under the File menu of Family Historian you will find Split Tree Helper.  Select Delete all Individuals NOT found by the Individual query below and in the drop down box for Individual query select Descendants.  You can also chose whether or not to delete notes, sources etc in the other drop down boxes.

When you press Delete another box will come up asking for the starting person, press the ... Button and then scroll in the next window to chose the individual whose descendants you want to keep and press ok twice.  All you will be left with is the start individual and their direct descendants.

Note using the descendants query to perform the split will leave you with only descendants so it will not include spouses since they are not descendants.  If you want them as well you will need a different query in which case come back to the forum.

I used the Spilt Tree Helper for the first time over the weekend. I wanted to send a part of my tree to a newly found (distant) relative. I tried the 'descendants' query, but as Tombaston says that will also remove spouses. I changed the query to 'All relatives' and was left with the information required.
