Hello, I'm new here so 'scuse me if I mess up!
I have been using FH for a few months now & I think it's a great programme. However what I would like to do is upload my tree to my website & Genes reunited website WITHOUT showing all the folks who are still with us. Is there an easy way to do this, or do I have to have 2 trees - one with everyone & one with just passed relatives. I use GEDmill pro to convert my GED to HTML. And that gives the option of marking folks you don't want in the published web - it takes ages to do them all every time I upload. I just wondered if there was an easy way of 'flaging' a person as LIVING?

Flagging is expected in version 3.

You can do similar things currently using the split tree helper on your main file to delete out living and other sensitive people prior to publishing.

You will find a variety of Queries to help you identify the living and you can then build a named list to use to delete all the living members prior to publishing, I can also recommend the use of Res Privita which will remove sensitive information from your file while leaving the names intact.

I have been using Res Privata and I am impressed at how easy it is.

Just out of curiosity are you breaking any laws if you publish details of someone who is living. Surely things like Date of birth of most people can easily be found so are virtualy in the public domain arent they.

Ok I can accept that you may not wish to publish everything that you might enter into a gedcom notes field but whats the problem with name date of birth and location type data?

I've tried PHPGedView from http://www.phpgedview.net/ which is happy to take a GED file and create a site from it. It assumes that you don't want to make public the details for living people, but allows users to be logged in, in which case you are assumed to be part of the family and therefore OK.

It does require a web host that offers PHP scripting, though!

I'll look out for Version 3 as I'm sure there are even more improvements!
I did try Rez Privida, but I must have set something wrong because it did not do what I wanted!
I rather agree with David about names etc on the net. All this information is available if you go looking in libraries (in the UK anyway) And to be honest I think anyone who uses their mothers maiden name & DOB as security passwords are a bit naive anyway. But that does not mean I'm not going ot get grumbled at by one of my elderly cousins for giving her age away! Untill I find a foolproof way of doing it (it needs to be foolproof for me!) I think I will edit all entrys on my living rellies to just a year of birth. When I started my tree I had no idea how many people I would end up with in my tree!! and to be fair I only just started.....lol
