Never noticed this before, but it came to light when I uploaded my gedcom file to ancestry.
I have a number of ancestors where the names were spelt differently in different generations, and when I have got actual proof from GRO cert or parish records, I have corrected them.
I end up with the entry as follows
1 NAME Elisha /Jefferys/
2 GIVN Elisha
2 SURN Jeffery
The 2 SURN has not been updated with the correction.
Is this intentional?
ID:1194
* Full name and surname in ged file are different
Full name and surname in ged file are different
I think I may know why
Further analysis shows that this field is only on the first fifty or so names and they were ones imported from the LDS program.
As other systems seem to use the information stored in SURN where it appears, can the lines safely be deleted from the gedcom file as also the UID numbers?

You only need just the NAME tag all others can safely be deleted as long as they are not different.
You can also delete the UID fields if you do not want them.
