Where do I go to find these?
Can anybody help in pointing me in the right direction to find out more about the following? -
1. A distant ancestor who was reputedly knighted by Queen Elizabeth I.
2. A relation who was awarded an O.B.E. in about 1918-1920.
3. A relation who died in Burma in 1921, we think he might have been a missionary as he was in the church.
4. A relation in the medical profession, posted to Singapore in about 1830, married a British girl (presumably out there) and raised a family there. Some of the children died there, everyone else eventually returned to the UK.
Any pointers greatly received.

If he was an ordained Church of England minister he will have been listed in Crockford's Directory. Not sure where you go to get hold of the 1921 edition, maybe the British Library. If he is listed it will give you a summary of his career including, education, parishes he worked in and missionary work overseas.

All civilian and Military honours are published in the London Gazzette so you should be able to find your relatives OBE.
You can search their on line archive at
http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/archiv ... ?WebType=0
You just type in the persons name and then select between dates and chose the honour ( order of the british empire) from a drop down list.
I found the announcement that my father had been mentioned in dispatches using the same site.

For the marriage in Singapore you could try http://www.1837online.com/Trace2web/Ove ... rchServlet. If you select marriages they include GRO Consular marriages from 1849 which may not be early enough or GRO Chaplains Returns 1796 to 1880.
I don't know how complete these are, I previously tried to find the death certificate for my grandfather who died in New Zealand in 1974 but didn't find it.

Many thanks for your help guys.
The London Gazzette supplements proved very useful, they have given me virtually the whole army career of at least one relation. However, I had hoped that the question might have been answered with the identity of the record repository for OBEs, DSOs, Knighthoods, etc. Presumably these things are formally recorded somewhere (back to 1560)?
I also had a look at the 1837online- overseas-search for my Singapore relation, but there didnt seem to be any reference. The chaplains returns, which seemed to be the only record covering the 1830s, lists army events for birth, marriage & death. I dont think the person Im looking for was military.

A few suggestions - mind I assume that you had already tried our old friend Google
1 - Knighthoods
Burge Peerage - http://www.burkes-peerage.net
Hereditary Titles - http://www.hereditarytitles.com
4 - You could try searching the catalogue of the Society of Genealogists in London which is now online at http://www.sog.org.uk/sogcat/
Use the power search and search 'medical directory' under title

Have you tried the 'Society for the Propagation of The Gospel', whose archive is housed at the Bodleian Library, I believe. I have a relative who was a missionary in India, and this line of enquiry bore fruit. Some of the Society's records are also at Lambeth Palace.
By the way, if you haven't located Crockford yet, they have it at the National Archive at Kew, but I think you'll have to go and look it up yourself!
