I have been moving things around on my computer (to tidy up a bit !) but have now lost the links to the pictures and other images in my tree.Is there a way I can get FH to find the new links.I am sure I saw how to to it somewhere.

You need to use the Work With External File Links option on the Tools menu.
There are some instructions in this article.

I am now wondering if it would be better to embed the photos and other images instead of linking to external files as I constantly move things around.I know this takes more space but if you save FH on cdrom it should not be too bad (I save it on an external hard drive at the moment). How would this be affect loading the FH file in terms of speed and if the photos were removed from my computer would they remain in FH.I suppose I could put all the photos and images on a cdrom and then use a link to the cdrom in the drive? (would that work). I would be interested to know what other users do?

Its not really recommended, as I believe the file has to be kept in memory and it will get very large very quickly if you use a lot of media files at a decent resolution.
My personal solution is to store all the images etc which 'belong' to FH in subfolders under my gedcom file.
That way I can just backup the whole directory, which is currently just over 1Gb in size, so I can back it up to a DVD drive. FH accesses the photos a lot when doing diagrams with photos in so I suspect linking to files on a removable drive would make diagrams with photos very very slow to re-draw.
