Is there a utility to sort Sources in Record Id sequence within the GEDCOM file?
Or will I have to edit the GEDCOM?

You can use the Work with record identifier tool to renumber the sources if thats what you mean.
and of course you can click on the header on the record window to sort the sources by thier existing number.

Thanks, Jane, but that just renumbers Sources sequentially within the GEDCOM file.

As far as I know Family Historian always records your sources within the GEDCOM file in Source ID order. But even if it doesn't why does it matter? You can view the sources in any order you want (alphabetical, ID, date updated, etc) simply by clicking the grey column header in the Record windows as Jane says in her second suggestion.
Hope this helps

Thank you.
However, when I use a website generator it produces the list of Sources in sequential order i.e. the order in which they appear in the GEDCOM. This is quite 'higgledy-piggledy' whereas I would like the list to appear in some ordered sequence e.g. Source type sequence. To do that I have to re-sort the Sources within my GEDCOM file and that is why I was asking if there was an external program to do that.

You could renumber the sources using the Work with Identifiers tool as I mentioned before. You can manually number the sources and then copy the manual number back to the record identifier.

Thanks Jane. That's exactly what I did and my Sources, which appear in alphabetical order in the standard Sources tab, are also in Record Id order. However, in the GEDCOM file they are still in the 'as entered' order (which, of course, is 'higgledy-piggledy') and this is my original problem/query.
