Long Notes

Is there a limit on the length of notes? I wanted to incorporate a mini biography as a note. Admittedly, this one wasn't that mini at nearly 6000 words. Using copy and paste, FH truncated it after about 90%. It didn't matter whether it was a Record Note or a Local Note, it got truncated at the same point.

I don't know the answer, but I would try spliting the note into two notes. As long as they occur one after the other there should not be a problem.

Gerry, yes there is a limit on the length of notes. It's about 30,000 characters - and bear in mind that spaces count as characters too.  However there is no limit on the number of notes you can have about a person, so the best solution,as Jane says, is to split your long note into 2 shorter ones.  Alternatively, you could also keep the mini-biography in a separate document (e.g. a Word document if you use Word), and insert it as a Multimedia object, linked to the person that it's about.  Multimedia can include anything that can be put in a file (even another GEDCOM file if you like).  It doesn't just have to be pictures or videos or stuff like that.

Thanks Jane and Simon - the advantage of including the mini-biography in a note is that it gets printed within FH generated individual reports. With a linked object it would have to printed separately (unless there is a way of doing this that I don't know about). So I think the way to go is to split the biography in two.
The fact the FH didn't fall over when I tried to make it swallow a long note is an indication of the the robustness of the program.
