I have been having trouble uploading my gedcom file to the Genes site despite having done it in the past several times. It has been over 4 weeks this time but I have been asked to check it is a gedom 5.5 and the character set is ANSI. Can you explain how I check this or give me any other advice. Many thanks Jan

If you open your Gedcom file with a text editor such as Notepad you should see about 5 or 6 lines down from the top of the file two lines which should like like:
1 GEDC
2 VERS 5.5
Also a couple of lines further on should be a line:
1 CHAR ANSI
I assume this is the confirmation Genes Reunited are looking for.
Did you prepare the file using Family Historian? If so, all the above should be correct.
I uploaded a Gedcom file to Genes Reunited this morning for the first time and it was accepted without any problems.

Jane posted a reply to an earlier post here: http://www.fhug.org.uk/cgi-bin/index.cg ... y&num=1002

She suggests removing the parts that Genes Reunited doesn't use from the copy of your GEDCOM file that you submit.  I guess you have added something to these since it last worked!

Many thanks for your replies. I did see Jane's post and did what she suggested but I will do a new gedcom copy and try again.

Hi
I have had trrouble getting a GEDCOM from Genes reunited since they launched the new family tree software. The GEDCOM load seems to bomb out at a particular relative. Going through the relatives text, removing any tabs and enter characters, then puting them back using the old software fixes it, but when I tell gr, they just ignore my emails. Bah!
