When I use a diagram I can switch off a particular branch by clicking on a symbol.
Can I do something similar with reports?
If I use a family report I get 2 generations. The descendant report gives me what I want but for every branch, I only want descendants of a particular name ie the male line.
I know I can change the number of generations on the narrative report but I want to switch off the children of married daughters as the info is of no interest to the person to whom I want to send the report.
I would be glad of any help.

I'm not quite sure what it is you want to do. Do you want to create a list of all of the decendants that carry the name 'Smith', for example? If so, you can create a custom query from the Descendants standard query, and create a line, in Rows
Exclude unless %INDI.NAME:SURNAME% matches ['Surname']
(that's all one line), and tick the parameter box and add a label such as Surname. When you run the query, it will ask you for the starting individual (as does the standard query), but it will also ask you for the surname.
What the outcome is depends on what convention you have used for married women. If you have them in your data under their unmarried name, the daughters will be in the list, but their children will not (assuming the children carry their father's name).

Many thanks for your reply, it was really useful. I have not used any queries for some time and had forgotten what to do.
One of my main lines is 'Wells', I have lots of information on this family (lots of branches) from the present day back to 17 hundreds when my direct ancestor William Wells married Elizabeth Harker. I have only a small amount of information on the Harker family covering 3/4 generations. I wanted to send a report to a Harker researcher with the Harker info I have starting with Elizabeth's father George Harker.
I want to send a report that excludes all or most of the Wells info which is of no interest to them.
I had a go at the Split Tree Helper in order to isolate the people I wanted. It was much easier to use than I expected and I ended up with a file that was almost correct (somehow I lost Elizabeth Harker & spouse William Wells). My idea was to use this file to get the correct report.
Any comments would be most welcome.

Many thanks for your reply Jane. I have been away and only just got round to trying your suggestion. Brilliant!
I have used the individual summary report but only for individuals - I have never noticed the 'Add relatives' button at bottom left !
I entered George added all descendants and then removed the people I did not want - quick and easy to do. I eventually got it down to 15 pages which was o.k.
I have learnt a lot about FH in the last couple of weeks - it is amazing what it can do.
