saving diagrams as graphics file
Having prepared a narrative report I now wish to add a graphics file of the tree, to send to other members of the family.
The graphics file saves OK, but all the top lines of the text - name etc - are obscured by the boxes. If I remove the boxes, half of the top line is still obscured by white.
Longer boxes which include marriage and death details either overflow at the sides or bottom or both.
I cannot find any reference to this in the user manual so how do I get a clean diagram?

Which format are you saving to?
Are you using the save as actual size option?
I suspect if you are using the EMF format it is actually the word processor at fault many seem to have problems. Especially if the file is very large.

I tried as JPEG and PNG and viewed them in graphics programs. The save as 100% was ticked.
I was going at attach a small section to show the situation but do not see any option to attach graphics to this reply.

Try using the Upload Image, directly below the text entry box, but make sure you are signed in and not using guest as you were for the last post.

It looks like you might be using a non tt font, try it again with arial or tahoma, also make sure your printer is set to a graphics capable printer.

Font is 8pt Arial - I don't think I have ever changed this.

This is how it appears on screen normally. The earlier graphics file is how it appears after saving diagram as a jpeg

What printer are you set to use as default?

Either Hewlett Packard Laserjet 2200D or Deskjet 970Cxi - I get exactly the same problem with either - both are fully graphics enabled printers.

I tried the copy option - then pasted that into a graphics program and again the top line is hidden by the text box.

I have highlighted this thread to Calico as I have never had this problem or seen it reported.
Just to check you have tried resetting to default all the diagram dimension options and that you are running version 2.3.5

Confirm - my version 2.3.5.
I have reset the diagram options to installation but saved a copy first and I see that some of the dimensions were changed. I do not understand however how the family tree saved version differs so much from the viewed version.
I have attached my original settings for reference.

Hello
Jane asked me to have a look at this one. Thank you for the images you uploaded. It really helps to work out what's going on.
When you reset the dimensions, did that fix the problem? If not, I think you need to adjust the margin settings in the 'More Dimensions' dialog (click on 'More Dimensions' in the Dimensions tab of the Diagram Options dialog). Using the other settings that you were using, I never managed to get the bottom line of text chopped, but I did manage to lose much of the first line. But in order to do that, I had to set the of the top and bottom margins to 0 (actually I suspect small values would have been enough). You don't show your margin settings, but I suspect that they must have been a key factor.
I'm sorry you have had this problem. I believe that the problem will be entirely resolved in the next version of F.H.

Thanks Simon,
Yes resetting the diagrams to default solved the problem - not a thought which would have occurred to me, for one would expect the saved jpeg (or other) file to mirror what appears on the screen. One of those mysterious things that happens with computers.
I am happy because I now have what I originally asked for, and for the excellent support offered through FHUG. No doubt the situation will keep your mind occupied for a while
Thanks

Just to say, I believe that FH actually uses it print routines to generate the JPG/EMF etc which are normally more accurate than the on screen display.
I am pleased you got your problem solved.
