Family Historian on PDA

Post by elizabethgent » 23 Aug 2005 23:18

I recently saw a person in my local record office using a PDA with Family Historian on it and thought what a brilliant idea it was.  I wondered if anyone had any advice on what sort of PDA would be best to run FH on.

Family Historian does not run on a PDA. However, it is possible to access your family history data by using an alternative program.

I use Pocket Genealogist on my PocketPC (HP iPAQ 2210). It is simple to convert your GEDCOM data file and upload to the PocketPC via the standard MS ActiveSync.

You can download and use a 'read-only' version for free or register for US$20 to allow updating your data on the PocketPC. You can then resynchronise the whole database, or simply create a small, changes only, GEDCOM file that allows more visible merging of changes.

There is also a PocketPC program called Pocket Ancestry that allows (read-only) access to your GEDCOM data file directly, without conversion.

Regards,
Mike

These suggestions are only appropriate if you have Windows Pocket PC

I've got a Palm PDA, and find GEDWISE http://www.batteryparksoftware.com/ particularly good

I use Pocket Genealogist from Northern Hills.

I've had no problems with this software.
