I want to know how to handle people who are Rev'd, Sir, Lord etc. etc. I would like them to be entered as, for example 'The Rev'd Ezekiel Hopkins' or 'Lord Robartes, Baron of Truro'. When I do descendant reports etc., however, all I can get is Ezekiel Hopkins: title Rev'd, etc. and often nothing at all. I have tried entering the titles under both 'title' and 'prefix', but to no avail. The same thing with suffixes, e.g. 'Captain MFF Wilson, DSO, RN', which is the format I would like to be able to see in diagrams, reports etc. etc. What am I doing wrong, please!
A second question: I have an ancestor and his brother who married girls who were sisters (in fact this has happened twice in my family). How can I include the sisters' family in my tree: it doesn't seem to come up in any of the diagrams. The two girls are listed as spouses, but I can't get the diagram to link them or show their parents: is it because they are not blood relatives? I would like to be able to include them.
Thank you, and thank you also for the clear and precise answers you've given to other questions asked on other forums (and so quickly too!).

On diagrams to get names with prefixes you need to use
%INDI.NAME[1]:ADORNED%
You can always find these by looking at the Add data reference option and selecting the format for the name that you want.
The brothers and sisters happened in my husbands family too.
If you center the tree on one of the couples the other family will appear how ever you will get repeated branches, I simply turn off the one I don't want and use a title box to explain the situation, when printing.

You've answered the question about suffixes, but not about titles. Almost all the trees we will be doing contain people with titles. Any suggestions how we can show the title, e.g. 3rd Duke of Sutherland, on the diagrams? It needs to come in between the name and the dates.

This is just a case of adding a line to the text scheme selecting the title from the attributes.
eg
%INDI.TITL%

Thanks for getting back so quickly. How is the title entered in the first place? I can't see a box for this in the property dialog for an individual.

Use the events and attributes tab and simply add it from the list.
or you can right click on the records window and add the attribute from that menu.

Hi,
another question in this context: can I get sort of a 'middlefix'? In Germany and some other countries, we have nobility titles looking like this: John VON Miller. If I prefix the Von, it lands in front of John, if I suffix it, it's behind Miller. In my earlier software, I for some time solved the problem by putting the Von into the given names, but wasn't really happy with it.
Thanks a lot for all your help out there

Have you tried using the Surname Prefix, rather than the prefix. I suspect you might have to use the all tab or records window to access it.

Jane,
thanks again - I had overlooked that item. Yes, it works with Surname Prefix, and I even found out how to get them into the diagrams as well as into the Family Group Sheet.
I am really fascinated by the possibilities this program offers ...
