Family Historian has encountered a problem!
I'm new to FH and have it running OK on my desktop (WinMe) but have started to get problems with it on my laptop running XP. Using the same file that works on the desktop I keep experiencing the '...has a problem and needs to close' error when attempting to open a diagram from individuals. Any suggestions? Thanks Kevin

Not heard of any problems. FH is one of the most stable windows programs I know.
Do you have photos turned on on the diagram if so do you have any broken links?
Are you using a normal, restricted or Admin account on XP?
How much memory do you have?
What version of FH are you running?
The latest version 2.3.5 can be downloaded from this site or the main Family historian site.

Hi Jane -here are the answers to your Qs
Do you have photos turned on on the diagram if so do you have any broken links? No photos - haven't altered defaults from installation
Are you using a normal, restricted or Admin account on XP? Normal/admin
How much memory do you have? 512Mb
What version of FH are you running? v2.3.5
Puzzled and concerned esp as the file works on the desktop.
Cheers Kevin

Just tried re installing FH - still no joy. Now find I can't diagram the tutorial files. No joy with chapter 1 then found it worked with Chap 4 then on repeating it on the same file it crashed again. Other applications all appear to be working with no probs including RootsMagic 2.0, Legacy 5 and Generations 8.5a - the one application I'm reluctantly trying to replace as a future proofing measure.
If others aren't having this problem it must be something odd about my laptop or its set-up (or is it just me...) that just seems not to get on with FH.....but what?
regards Kevin

Hello Jane,
Still having problems with FH crashing. Now it seems to work on the file I originally had problems with but now some of the tutorial files keep falling over. Here's part of the error signature
AppName: fh.exe AppVer: 2.3.4.1 ModName: pscript5.dll
ModVer: 0.3.1282.1 Offset: 00025f14
Any further suggetions would be appreciated as this has stopped me from using FH as my chosen replacement for Generations. Thanks Kevin

the file pscript5.dll is not actually part of F.H. at all. It sounds like a postscript file, which suggests that the crash is actually occurring within a printer driver. This can happen even if you aren't printing. This is because F.H. shows you on-screen what you would get when you print. And in order to do that it has to communicate with your printer driver even when displaying an ordinary diagram.
I suggest you try selecting a completely different printer from within your laptop and see if that fixes the problem.

Many thanks for replying. I had been using a pdf creation driver that comes with the Sony adobe suite of software- just switched back to my Hp1220 and hey presto problem resolved!!
All systems go now for the final move from Generations

Glad to hear you got it sorted. if you need PDF output, both eDocPrinter and pdf995 seem to work just fine with FH.
