Downloading Queries
Hi all,
When I attempt to download a query, all I get is a new screen displaying the text of the query. Although I could save this, I doubt that it will do anything more than display again if double clicked. Guidance welcomed.
Regards
John

What browser are you using.
If you are on IE, make sure you have the 2.2 or above version of FH, installed.
If you have a Mozzila browser other than Firefox simply save the text file to the desktop ensuring it saves with a .FHQ extension and double click it to install.

Hi Jane.
For your information - running IE6 SP1 on Win 2000 SP4 (both with all updates) and FH 2.3.5. As there was no pop-up window offering options to save the file, I had had previously saved the screen contents in both .htm and .txt formats.
Following your comments I saved the .txt file - Single%20Surname_fhq.txt - to the Desktop, changed the filename extension to .fhq and double clicked it. The PC reported that the file had loaded sucessfully and a quick test proved it was working.
Wonder-fuel.
Many thanks Jane. Have a great weekend.

Never had the problem with IE before or not since Simon changed the install routines to associate .FHQ files with Family Historian.
Just double checked using my Win2000 and IE6 and they prompted to download just as normal.
On IE you should be able to right click on the download now and use the Save Target As and get the correct file name, this does not work correctly with FireFox though.

Hi Jane.
I was expecting to see the download sequence you have described. I've just tried a query download again, but all that happens is a new window opens with the file text displayed. As a double check I selected to download an FH update file and the Save As option appeared without problem.
As a workaround I am quite happy to save the page in .txt format and change the filename extension as I described earlier. If, however, Simon reads this and believes it to be a problem he would like to investigate further, I will be happy to provide him with details of the PC configuration etc. direct. The PC is fully functional and I have no problems downloading files from elsewhere.
Regards,
John.

Did you try the right click method for the query.
Also once you have downloaded does FH install them ok on a double click? If so then I suspect its something strange in the IE config.

Downloading Queries
Good morning Jane.
I have identified the problem - to clarify:
If I left click to select a query download a new window appears with the query text displayed, Selecting File - Save As from the Control Toolbar does does not offer .fhq format in the Save As Type box, but files can be saved in .txt format and then renamed.
If I right click a query download and select Save Target As, the PC defaults to saving as a text file, with a filename extension of .fhq, which of course is what was needed.
I was originally unaware that the download had to be saved as an .fhq file and expected to see a Save/Open type pop-up appear when downloading. Could you please add a little more text to your instructions relating to query downloads to clarify the procedure for others.
Many thanks.
John
