Deleting place from place list

As a newcomer I find I have several variants of a place in the place list, as a result of typing something different each time. I can edit them, but not delete them. Is it possible to delete a place? If I can, what happens to a place in an individual record?

You can not delete places because they exist in your data.

However you can combine places together by selecting them and pressing the Replace with button to and select the Placename you want to use.

Thanks very much. No problem, tried it and it worked fine.

I couldn't find anything in the manual about this, but perhaps I was looking in the wrong place.
