Blood relatives

Post by alvinshipperley » 02 Feb 2005 19:24

Is there any query or report that lists just blood relatives (ancestors and descendants) of a selected person? I want to find out all the surnames that I'm related to directly.

The easiest way is to simply create a new query adding all descendant and all ancestors for the same person.

If you are not confident on what to do just post a reply and I will load one on to the site for you.

Thanks, but I suppose I mean more than just direct relations, eg. my great-grandfather had a daughter who married a Green and their daughter married a Hale and had a son - therefore, I am related to some Hales out there.
I would appreciate some direction.

Thats fairly simple just use the All relatives query. If you save it as a custom query and add a column for the surname and save the results if you have excel you can use a pivot table to quickly produce a 'short list' of all the surnames with a person count for each name.

Thank you. I don't use Queries much so I appreciate the help.
I managed to create a custom query from the one you recommended and it gives what I need.
