Diagram Copy Resolution

Post by CR » 21 Jan 2005 16:07

Does anyone know if it is possible to increase the resolution of the output from the Diagram - Copy command?
It seems to default to 72ppi.
I am trying to export a 5 level tree, with individual pictures into Paint Shop Pro. The aim is to get a proffessional poster size print out (about A3) that I can mount, frame and present as a gift.
I have managed to get the chart into PSP ok but am having trouble with the size of the image and the defaulkt resolution doesn't give a clear print out at the size that I want. I guess I need to get at least 300 and prefereably 600 ppi to make the pictures look decent.
Any ideas gratefully recieved. Od am I going about this the wrong way?

I would suggest using PDF995 and printing the diagram to an A3 page size PDF. The printer should be able to handle PDF and the DPI is configurable via the printing section. The alternate is to check if he can handle EMF files and save the diagram in that format. I know you can do those very big indeed with high resolution.

Hi Jane,

Sorry I have two threads going on this.
Thnaks for your input. I have been trying both print to PDF995 and diagram copy into Paint Shop Pro. Both with varying success.
1. Import into PSP using diagram copy seems to work well but the max resolution I can get is 72dpi.
2. I can Change the background in PSP to look like parchment to give the chart an authentic look.
3. Print to PDF995 seems to resize the image. I set print setup in FH to PDF995, A3 and sized the diagram with page boundries visible to fit one page. However, when I print to PDF995 I am missing some of the diagram? I can get it all in by scaling the diagram down but should I have to do this or am I doing something wrong?
4. The other problem I have is non of the high street printers I have approached (Jessops etc.) don't handle PDF files. The also won't print the JPEG I have produces as the machines say it is too low a resolution.

Idealy I would like to find a printer that will print both so that I can compare the results and decide how to do it in future.
Does anyone know of/recomend a printer (high street or online) that handles both JPEG and PDF files at large (A3) sizes?
I am attaching the JPEG that I have achieved so far below so that you can see what I am trying to achieve.
BTW great user group for FH users. Thanks for all assistance.

Regards
Clive

Try saving the diagram as a BMP file. Make sure you make the tree big enough to cover 2 Vertical A4 Pages (this is the same as 1 A3 sheet) or alternatly select copy then bitmap, and ensure you select actual size. You may need to expand the sizes to very large (8 or 9 pages) to get the copied image large enough. I played around and got a very very large bitmap, over 3000 dpi wide.

Another option is to use eDocPro and use the template function to merge your background and text on to the diagram at printing time.

For A3 printing most printers expect at least 300dpi.

Thanks Jane,
Sorry if I am being extremely dim [confused]
How do I save the diagram as a BMP file in FH? Or are you refering to copy and bitmap?

Try the menu Diagram, Save As, and select save as Bitmap

Sorry Jane but the only save option I have under the Diagram Menu is the Save As Custom Diagram option which just puts it into custom diagrams on the view menu.
The only way I can see to get it out a a bimap is through the diagram copy option, select bitmap as opposed to enhanced metafile. I have tried this option saving as large a diagram as I can can get but in still 72dpi on PSP and when I try to resize to 300 I run out of memory.
I'll have to experiment with different sizes on screen in FH.
Thanks for help. I hope others find this usefull.

Oops! Told you I was being dim [tongue],
I'm on 2.2.4. Only brought it recently didn't realise there was an upgrade there.
Just upgraded and can see the options you describe. Should give me what I need.
Sorry to be a pain and thanks for your help. Much Appreciated. [grin]

Done the upgrade. Saved diagram as .bmp and got 600dpi by default. Had to mess about with size in FH to get the right dimensions (not sure why setting print setup in FH to A3, sizing the diagram appropriately and saving actual size doesn't give me an A3 image?) but still I have what I need now.
Many thanks Jane for all your help and sorry if I was a bit dim [oops]

There are some very very complex reasons for this Simon did explain to me at some point, but I am not sure I could explain it again.

I have now produced what I want using FH save as .bmp file, Edited in PSP, had it printed in Jessops and mounted and framed it ready to present.
Very happy with results.
For anyone interested here a link to the image I produced at 72 dpi, 600 dpi is a very large file. Once mounted and framed it is very effective [cool].

It took ages to render changes on my PC P4 2.53GHz 512MB but was worth it in the end. May have to upgrade memory if I make a habit of this which I probably will now I know the results are worth it.
Thanks Jane for your help.
