Birth Certificate

Post by ronsaban » 08 Jan 2005 11:12

Hi, Good Morning.
I am trying to trace the Birth Certificate of William Herbert, son of Joseph & Ellen Herbert.
According to Ancestry.co.uk William can be found in Mar quarter 1867 in Birkenhead, Cheshire Merseyside. The Ref No is 8a 327.
I have searched 1837online.co and visited my local Records Office in Reading to browse the St Catherine Index from 1865 through to 1879 but cannot find any reference. I have tried all the Herbert's, not just William. Is there anyway that I can view 8a 327? Is there any special significance about this number such as workhouse or prison.
Has anyone else come up against this problem or can anyone help me

On FreeBMD, the following reference is found.
March Quarter 1867
Herbert William Birkenhead 8a 417

However, if you go on that site, you can search through all districts, for all births, not just specific names, listed by volume & page number only.
Of course you must bear in mind that the information on it & Ancestry is only as accurate as the person who typed it in!
He's not in 8a/327 though. Most of the entries are for the Nantwich registration. Strangely, nothing at all for March Q 1867!
Let me know if I can do anything else.

Thank you.
I did send away for the Birth Cert ref 8a 417 but unfortunately it is not the one I require. 8a417 shows the Father as John and the mother Mary.
In view of your comments I do not know where to go.
Thank you anyway

If you know he is born in Birkenhead then you may be in luck as Cheshire has a brilliant resource for births marriages and deaths at

http://cheshirebmd.org.uk

I note that all of the births in the Birkenhead registration district are on this site up to 1899. You can print out a form from the site to send to the appropriate register office and get your certificates for £7.00

If you select the area as Wirral it should give you births in the Birkenhead area.

Hope this helps
