Im a little confused about adding marriage citations manually.
From a chart Ive been given of my family tree, Ive added all the data into Family Historian.
Now I would like to record which data came from this (and other) charts by adding source citations as appropriate.
Ive noticed that a source can be added to a marriage twice, once to the whole record and once to the marriage event (if it exists). There are many unions in the tree without any details, so there wont be a marriage event there. The whole record citation is not apparent in a family report, so it appears that I need to add empty marriage events if I wish to enter marriage citations.
Please could you clarify the usage of whole record citations against marriage citations, and have I assumed right in having to add a marriage event in order to enter a source citation, or is there an alternative?

Why didn't you use Auto-ciation to put the data in in the first place.
When you say the family record source is not showing which report is that on, so I can pass the problem on, the family group sheet?

When you talk about 'the whole record' of the marriage I assume you mean a family record which connects together a couple with the children that they had?
You could link a family record to a source to show that the source gave you information about the whole family (e.g. a family bible might be the source of this information). However, if the source gave you information that the two people got married then it should be linked to the marriage event.
Personally I think that it is sensible to use sources linked to events where possible as it is then much clearer as to the information the source has given you. The charts have told you of certain events that have happened, e.g. birth events, marriage events, the person's name and these are what you are should link to the sources. Even if the chart hasn't told you the dates of a marriage, it has told you that a marriage is assumed to have taken place and therefore I would create a marriage event but don't put any information into it. Just use the event to record that a marriage took place and that the source of this is the chart.
