Narrative Report

Post by pbryan » 19 Dec 2004 16:22

I really like the Narrative report, but how do I write a query to do the following.

The query starts with an input of my daughter. It then traverses back through all of her ancestors until it can't find any more. (e.g. finds my and my wifes grandparents) It then saves these top level ancestors so that I can then use these as the input to the descendendt narrative report. This report would start with the 8 Grandparents.

Hope this makes sense.

Narrative Report

Probably as you are only interested in a fixed number of generations back, I would run a quick ancestors query and save the result to a list and delete out the lower generations.

It is probably possible to write a query, but I would need to think about it, if you want me to spend time doing it if you are going to repeat the process for many different people just post again.

Narrative Report

Hi.

What I wanted to do was not a fixed number of generations, I was just using it to explain what I was thinking.

I really like the narrative report.

By choosing the top of each ancestor tree, and going down to more than the standard 3 levels (e.g. 99), I can print out the whole of the info in the file.

Only complication I can see is that you could end up with duplicate data due to the top having both a male and a female.

So you really need to determine of the top of that tree is wedded or not.
