Whats the best way of removing data prior to making it public ?

Try Res Privata. There is a link in the Links Section, very flexible and easy to use, and FREE.

Tried that, but it doesn't seem to remove all the data.

E.g. it left the data of education and graduation still in it.

Any other ideas?

I seem to remember you can tune the res privita, try changing the settings to remove all events.
