Vertical height between boxes in diagram
How do I reduce the length of the vertical line that joins the parents to the horizontal line joining the children ? I've tried adjusting all sorts of settings but nothing seems to affect this height. Its driving me nuts !

A couple of things to try.
Go to the Diagram options dimensions page and hit installation settings.
Also try adjusting the number of generations from each ancestor.

Thanks for the quick reply - but no joy I'm afraid. The setting that's the problem seems to be the vertical setting (c) - distance from button to horizontal sibling line. If I set it to a large number (e.g. 50) the boxes move further apart, but even with this setting at 1 there is still a big gap between the generations. Are the horizontal stripes in the background significant - because the boxes all sit at the bottom of each stripe?

I suspect its the number of rows per generation which is causing the long spaces try installation settings buttons on the first tab as well.
Remember on an All Relatives diagram the minimum per generation is two rows.
If you are not wanting to show cousins etc, you are better using the hourglass or simple descendants diagram.

Thanks for your help Jane.
I was using the All Relations view but there were no cousins (not sure why that is - but that's a different question) hence the gaps between the generations.

I have a similar problem with diagram box spacings. If in part of a diagram,I have a male who is married and they have two children, then there is no problem when displaying in Anc/Desc format. But when I want to show the same group with her parents, and move to an All Relatives format, then a horizontal gap appears between the parents and children equivalent to 3 generations, with comparable extensions to the vertical lines, and her parents are not shown.
What am I doing wrong, please ?

Have you followed the instructions above to adjust the number of generations down from each ancestor?

If you want to see the Relatives of both members of a 'marriage' you need to select both individuals (Ctrl-click) before selecting 'All Relatives'
