LACK OF MAIDEN NAMES

This is more a general query than specific to FH (which I am really enjoying using). How do other people manage the name records for married women? I always list their single name where I have it and use 'Unknown' where I do not (as yet) know their maiden names. This means that, after adding data for several family names, I have a huge number of Unknowns listed. When I then search census and death records it is difficult to cross-check that information quickly with my records. Especially as so many of the women seem to be Mary Anns and Sarahs! Any hints gratefully received.

I put no surname in, using // to show FH there is no surname.
So for example
Rosemary Jane //
I can then use queries to find people with a Null surname.
PS I used to use the Unknown method in my previous software, but FH allows me to have a blank surname so much the better.
PPS you can also use / to identify double barreled surnames
eg
Jane /Smith Barton/

I put the married surname in brackets when I do not know the maiden name, eg Jennifer /(HOLLAND)/

Thanks, both of you. I'll experiment a bit with this.
