I am migrating from Legacy to FH5--when will I learn that you cannot teach an old dog new tricks. I have eventually sorted the gedcom on most things so that the udfs are info only but how do I get rid of them or do I just leave them. The record list says the columns are empty so I cannot simply delete them; but does that mean if I export they will still be there. I am finding that the help is probably ok if first starting but very poor about migrating and for the computer illiterate very complicated. Ancestral census etc. would be good if I was just starting but I cannot re-enter 5000 people! What will I miss most?-Bolded names for direct line on focus window and different colours for male and female.
Please can you tell me why in reports I get things like;- 'He was. Farmer' and not 'He was a farmer.' I have put a custom event of address in but cannot change ' they experienced address' to 'they live at'
I hope the reports and diagrams are going to make up for the aggro'

Earlier versions of FH would have automatically deleted UDF with empty fields, but some users like to create their own UDF (sometimes with empty fields) and prefer them to be retained.
In the Records Window, or the Property Box ~ All tab, with the data structure expanded, you can select any UDF marked with a star-burst bullet, and press the Delete key on your keyboard to delete it.
This works whether its fields are empty or not, and also works for any valid data, so beware!
There is also a Plugin called Change Any Fact Tag that can locate most UDF and let you delete them, or change them into an appropriate valid Tag.

These default narrative sentences are determined by the Fact Set definitions, but can be over-ridden on a Fact by Fact basis.
Use Tools > Work with Fact Sets select the problematic Event/Attribute and click the Properties button.
The sentence Template sets the default narrative sentence.
It takes a little getting used to, but click the Help button for advice, and post back here if you get stuck.
The idea is that plain text represents itself, and {Template Codes} in curly brackets are substituted by data in the actual Fact.
e.g. {date} will be replaced by the contents of the Date field.

In the Property Box on the Facts tab, each Fact displays its Sentence at the bottom, and this is what appears in narrative reports.
Click on this field, and you can edit it using the same concepts as above, to over-ride the narrative just for this Fact.

If Tools > Work with Fact Sets does not list your custom Event/Attribute then create a New one ensuring its Fact Name and Fact Type match your custom Fact.

In time I hope you will find FH has superior features compared with Legacy.
