Plug ins Store query

Post by jsphillips » 04 Jul 2012 08:53

Dear Janet
I have downloaded and used various plug ins.
The otherday I searched on line to see if there were any updates and was told I had none.
I had difficulty in finding the plugin store It does not appear on the main menu.
When I eventually found the store it said I had no plugins installed which is not correct. Although I have registered both for emails and for this forum it did not recognise my log in. I registered again with the same username and password that I use for this forum which recognises this.
What is the problem please ?? Cannot the Main menu here have a dedicated direct link to the plug in store and not have to log in again please
Thanks[frown]

The plugin store is on the Family Historian site and is not part of FHUG, it is accessed via the Plugin Store button in Family Historian.

The users on that site are for Plugin Authors to allow them to submit plugins, so the view your plugins shows the plugins you have submitted to the store and not the plugins you have installed on Family Historian. To download and install plugins you do not need to sign on to the Family Historian site.

Plug ins Store query

Post by jsphillips » 04 Jul 2012 11:15

Dear Janet
I accessed Family Historian direct and went into the plugin store. I redownloaded all the existing plugins I had. They said already downloaded but ov erwrite they said Ok now over written
I checked that they worked...all OK except the one that said check existing download versions written by yourself.
After running it said no plugins existed ??
Is it because I have downloaded the plugins themselves to my folder called 'downloads' and they should be somewhere else. In this case please tell me the default Folder and I will drag them into it
Sorry to be nuisance
Best regards

When you go to the Tools>Plugin option can you see the plugins in the list?

After you downloaded the plugins did you double click them to install them?

What error do you get on the Version checker? I have just tried it and it correctly reported the levels on all my plugins

Yes I can see from Family Historian..Tools..plugins
I can see 19
All appear to run ok
When I run your version checker it says
' 19 checked :-
D up to date 1
E not in store 18
I then look at details and it shows 1 Map checker OK
and then 18 not in store although they are listed and have your name & Tatewise etc beside them.
I re-downloaded tham and overwrite still the same??

1) Check that the ones Not In Store have exactly the same Title as the ones you obtain from the Plugin Store.

2) When you click Download in the Plugin Store your browser should offer to either Open with Family Historian or Save to a Folder.
I would advise you choose Open with Family Historian and see if that improves matters.

I can get the same, but have worked out what is happening, but not sure why.
On my Main PC - Windows 7 - saves plugins with underscore instead of a space in filename.
On my Laptop - Windows XP - saves plugins with space in filename.

Both machines are using IE8.

When do check on Windows 7 machine says no plugins found in store.
When do check on Laptop finds plugins and says up to date.

So main question is how to save with Spaces in names automatically.

I have downloaded on Windows 7 IE9 and Firefox and the files come down correctly with no underscores, are either of you using Add on download managers which are changing the names.

You can rename them once installed using the More button to access the Rename function.

I have checked all 19 of my plugins have underscores between names not spaces.
I am not using a download manager or add ons.
I just accessed FH plugins and downloaded and SAVED plugin to my Download folder. I then ran after.

That explains why the checking system is not working.

If you download a plugin from the store, what name do you see? What version of IE are you using?

The store normally removes all the underlines when it sends the filename down, so I am not sure why it's not doing it for you.

If you download with IE9 or Firefox do you still have the same problem?

I have removed all underscores with the exception of one file to leave as a 'test'
The query checker now finds them.
I also have a query 'find all duplicate names' by Tatewise not found in store.
My IE is 8 there is a problem with some of my other programs with 9
I will try a new download and see if it happens again

I have downloaded a new query from the Store and it comes up in tools plugins with underscores again.
I have checked my download folder and they are all saved in there with underscores.
It obviously is not stripping out the underscores when saved

Definitely something strange happening, this is what i get with various machines and browsers

XP - IE8 - Spaces
Win7 - IE8 - Underscores
Win7 - Firefox 13 - Spaces
Win8 RTM - IE10 - Spaces

So looks to be to do with Win7 and IE8, don't know what everyone else is using to know if they have the same problem.
Although it doesn't stop the plugins from working just means that the 'Check installed plugins against the Store' doesn't work as filenames are different, unless renamed but this then means when you download new version of a plugin you have to delete the old one and then rename the new one with spaces instead of underscores.

When the plugins are downloaded, the name the browser is told to use does not have underscores in it, but the file on the disk does have underscores, I presume IE8 is getting the other filename from somewhere, I suspect it's a browser issue, which will be near impossible to fix.

I'll write a rename plugin for those affected, until they move up to the current version of IE.

Edit:

As I thought this is a feature of IE8
