How do you record your census, if you have one source per page you can just use the View>Record Links from the source.

In V5 you can use:
Tools
Work with Data:
Addresses....

choose the address you want:
then select: Where used:

This will produce a query result set for all occurrences (Not just census)

Census persons at same address

Post by jsphillips » 29 Jun 2012 07:35

Under each person where applicable
(a) I enter facts
(b) I click on Census
(c) I enter in date box census date eg 6 June 1841
(d) I enter in place book the address
(e) I enter in age box the age of the person from the census.
So for example in 1871 I want to see a list of the persons living at xxx address to reproduce the data that I have entered from the actual Census.
Any help would be welcome
Thanks

I assume this is going to be an ongoing requirement.

Looking forwards, I would strongly advise you use the free Ancestral Sources for Census data entry to FH, and Baptism & Marriage too, with Birth, Death, and Probate coming later.
This will create a transcript of the Census as a Source Record, and also simplifies the repetitive task of entering all those Facts.

It would also be feasible to progressively re-enter all your existing Census data, which may be easier than trying create a Query or a Plugin to do the same thing.

Tatewise Thanks for your helpful and speedy response.
I have tried AS but not into using it with all the data I have got.
I was hoping that as each census has been corrected trnscribed in Census fact with its correct date that a query could be written to show all names collated againt the specific census year and address. Is this a difficult task or could there be a plug in for this
Thanks

A Query should certinly do what you want as have done a similar one for my self.
You may need to add or remove columns, depending on what you want to show and how you record Source info.

Columns defined as

Query was set as
If you want specific place or address only just add a filter for it.

Dear TimTreeby
Thanks the second column
Heading Expression
Dates =LifeDates2[,STD]
is not recognized when I key it in ??

Also would i need to create a new query for each Census Date since this one is for 1851 and just alter expression
Thanks I am a complete duffer in Queries.
Would it be possible to upload your query to site so I could download as a Custom query
Thanks for your help again

The answer to your first question is straightforward.
The square brackets should be round parentheses:
=LifeDates2(,STD)

This is because they contain parameters to the =LifeDates2 function.

Whereas square brackets contain the index to an instance of a data reference such as %INDI.CENS[2]% or %INDI.CENS[year=1851]%.
The former identifies the 2nd Census Event, which could be for any Year.
The latter identifies the Census Event with DATE:YEAR=1851, which could be any instance (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc).

The simple answer to your second question is 'Yes', make a copy of the Query for each Year, and change the 1851 in all the Column Expressions and the Row Filter to the required Year.

It is possible to create a single Query that accepts a Year parameter, but it is quite complex.
You say you are 'a complete duffer in Queries', so I won't venture down that path.

Thanks
It is fine now.
It does not work because I provide in the Fact Census boc a precise date
ie 3 Apr 1881
What do I alter to reflect this precise date rather than year ??
Thanks again

If you change every year=1851 in the Query to year=1881 then it will work.

The CENS[year=1881] index only checks the Year part of the Census Date field.

Basically, yes as Tatewise says, I created a seperate query for each year, called (1841 Census-in, 1851 Cenus-in, etc), and then changed the ref year for each seperate year in every place in the Column Tab and the Row Tab. (So for 1861, just change everywhere it says 1851 to 1861).

Example of how I recorded 1851 Cenuses.

If you record Census deatils different to me then the 'Where within Source' may not show correctly.

The other Census Queries are a bit more complex as have put in filters to allow for immigration and emmigration events.

I made a mistake in my last post re emmigration and immigration filters, they are not on the Queries for who is on a Census, but are on the Queries for who is not on a Census, done so i can see who i still have to find and easy to mark in diagrams.

And yes if you want a cpy of my Queries then i can upload to site if you wish.

Yes I record Census data as (for example) 30 Mar 1851
I only use:- Date, Age and Place boxes and sources I record under notes
I have tried this with 1851 and it only gives me a long list of names and no other columns.
It would be a good idea if you could upload for me and I could then use as template and produce others for each census year.
My main concern was to produce a list similar to the Census itself, of all persons, relationships per address.
I take it that if no Source or address box is used by myself it wont matter as the Result for those items will be blank !!
