Diagrams - multiple

Post by akirk » 14 Nov 2004 10:34

A feature I would love to see is the ability to handle multiple diagrams simultaneously.

e.g. if I have a chart showing the descendants of fred bloggs open, it might be useful to open another chart at the same time allowing me to compare information, or merely work on another line for a short while.

I often need this, e.g. if I am doing a lot of work on one line, then come across some information from another line I have to enter that info through the records window which I do not find as intuitive as the diagram.

I dislike having to close the first diagram as I will usually have it set how I want it - font size / branches switched on and off etc.

c.f. next suggestion

You can already do this.
From the start up tips box
You can have as many diagram windows open at a time as you want. Simply press the padlock toolbar button when the diagram window is active, to prevent it being re-used. If you then click on any toolbar button or menu command to open a diagram, a new window will be opened for the new diagram. The same technique works with the Reports and Multimedia Windows too.

Thank you once more...

However, not terribly intuitive, maybe it would be useful to have the ability to choose between a second diagram using the same window or a new window as an option in the preferences?

Also - on the business of whether it is intuitive, I am not sure that it is logical to have a window 'locked' to mean that it will stay in that window, when it would suggest that you can no longer edit that window...

Hi - this is my first time here as I've only recently bought FH, I noticed this straight away, and the simple way to have two (or more charts) on the go is to open multiple sessions of FH, and just ALT-TAB between them.

PS My name doesn't fit in the email name identifier box (Pierre Bernhard-Grout) - not a good design feature for a Forum page !!

You can have multiple sessions open, but be very careful about editing both!

I am now using the method of locking the window, it works well, I just fel that it is not intuitive...
