Courses in South East London suburbia

Post by jsphillips » 08 Mar 2012 11:32

I would love to attend a course. I live near Sevenoaks Kent and I find that getting up to London is very Time consuming and extremely expensive. Would it not be possible to hold a course in the South of London ie area Sevenoaks Maidstone Bromley etc. I thought it would pay Calico to install a full time course Tutor which would be paid for out of the entry fees. I am further moved to say that from your database of members there must be many who would attend a South Eastern suburbia Course. I further understand that perhaps we should wait until version 5 is out
Thanks

Employing trainers is expensive and I doubt the market for FH is big enough to support the kind of salary you would need to pay someone for them to be a full time expert in FH, be willing to travel the country and be a qualified trainer. Or at least able to train.

Also, I don't know of any other programs that have this. All courses I've seen are run by societies or enthusiasts. Callico Pie are a small company, they don't have the kind of backing that Family Tree Maker for instance has. If Ancestry don't do courses all over the country, someone small certainly won't be able to make it worth their while!

And to your point of the courses being too near london, Jane is running some in south yorkshire and somerset. http://www.fhug.org.uk/cgi-bin/index.cg ... ews&id=186
